Board Certified Internal Medicine Specialist

Dr. Chantel Raghu

Dr. Raghu completed her rotating internship at Iowa State University in 2013 and then her internal medicine residency at University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2016. After her residency, she worked as a staff internist at a 24 hour specialty and emergency hospital in Cincinnati for 6 years before joining our team at Oxford Veterinary Hospital. She is proud to be the first (and currently only) veterinary specialist in Butler County and excited to bring specialty medicine closer to home.

Services

If your pet is struggling and has a condition that is difficult to diagnose or treat, our internal medicine specialist can help.

Abdominal ultrasound

Ultrasound is a crucial tool to evaluate for tumors or abnormalities in any of the abdominal organs. Ultrasound is a typical first step if your pet is experiencing abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, poor appetite, or weight loss.

Bronchoscopy

Dr. Raghu uses a small camera that fits into the lungs of dogs and cats to evaluate for collapsing trachea, pneumonia, bronchitis, or cancer in the lungs and airways. This diagnostic may be recommended if your pet has a chronic cough or labored breathing that has not improved with prior therapies.

endoscopy of gi tract

Just like with people, we can use small cameras to go into our pets stomachs, intestines, and colons to look for polyps, obtain biopsies, and pull out foreign objects that they shouldn’t have eaten.

Subcutaneous ureteral bypass (SUB) flushes

Dr. Raghu has advanced training in interventional procedures including subcutaneous ureteral bypass (SUB) device and stent placements. While working in Cincinnati, she helped place these life-saving devices and is available to help manage their long term care by intermittent flushes and medical management of chronic kidney disease.

rhinoscopy

If your pet has chronic sneezing, nasal discharge, snoring (loud breathing), or nosebleeds, then our internist will use a scope to evaluate the nasal passages and nasopharynx to look for tumors, fungal organisms, inflammation, polyps, or a foreign object to get a diagnosis and determine the next steps for treatment.

endocrinology

Dogs and cats can get endocrine diseases just like people can: diabetes, abnormal cortisol levels, and thyroid dysfunction. Dr. Raghu will perform special endocrine testing to determine which treatments are necessary to balance your pet’s condition.

ultrasound guided fine needle aspirates

When tumors or big lymph nodes are seen on ultrasound, a fine needle aspirate will be performed to get a sample of the cells to try to get a diagnosis in a minimally invasive way.

Infectious disease

There are many infectious diseases in our area, and Dr. Raghu has a special interest in figuring out what is causing your pet to feel sick and formulating a plan to get them back to health.
